HACE & Jewel-Osco Event

On April 10, Jewel-Osco hosted an exclusive Latino Recruitment Series at their corporate office in Melrose Park. Their main focus was to recruit for Store Director Management Trainees. Over 200 résumés were screened and approximately 40 candidates were selected to attend this event. Highlights of the evening included the participation of Jewel-Osco's Senior Leadership Team who discussed their career paths. Job seekers also had the opportunity to speak with Jewel-Osco Store Directors and Store Management Trainees, as well as hiring managers and recruiters. Jewel-Osco's recruitment team set up individual interviews with all the attendees who were interested. This extraordinary event has already led to some hires!

The Young & Successful

HACE, ALPHA and MAHA partnered to deliver the "The Young & Successful" event on April 12. Keynote speaker Dr. Samuel Betances told the audience of 100 students and early professionals that the way to break down barriers, "crushing bricks," is through words. Dr. Betances spoke about a little old woman who challenged him at an age when he thought he knew everything. This woman convinced him to go back to high school and graduate from college, and encouraged him to read memoirs. With his mentor's guidance, Dr. Betances began intentionally reading biographies and memorizing great speeches. Later on, these new words gave him visibility and have allowed him to make presentations to audiences around the world. He ultimately went to Harvard, and has advised three U.S. presidents. The inspirational lesson Dr. Betances communicated to our audience was that our future is not restricted by our environment and our circumstances; instead, we must seek out new avenues and people who can supply us with guidance and direction.

HACE Launched the Latino Career Forum in Miami

On April 17, the HACE team was busy at the Doral Park Country Club in Miami. We decided to host an exclusive event for job seekers and limit the number of companies who would be recruiting that evening. The companies received well over 325 résumés for consideration, and 180 job seekers were invited to attend. Attendees had the opportunity to sit at a company table of their choice and meet one-on-one with the employer of greatest interest to them. We want to recognize those organizations who recruited that evening: Baptist Health South Florida, Caterpillar, Chick-fil-A, Kaplan Higher Education, Rewards Network, U.S. Secret Service, and Wachovia. Each of the companies expressed great satisfaction with the Forum and with the candidates they met that night.
