Residency can be a tricky thing for college students, especially those at private institutions.

In general, living in a state during the academic year does not qualify you as a legal resident of that state.

There are four questions that can help determine if you qualify as an Illinois resident for purposes of this scholarship; if the answer to two or more of these questions is “yes,” you may qualify: 

• Did you graduate from an Illinois public high school?
• Was your driver’s license or official state identification issued in Illinois?
• Do you or your parents (claiming you as a dependent) file resident income tax returns in Illinois?
• Are you registered to vote in Illinois?

If you are attending school in Illinois, but cannot answer "yes" to at least two of the questions above, you are not eligible for this scholarship.
